Books from Dolly Parton's Imagination Library

For those of you who are not aware of Dolly Parton's Imagiantion Library it is a program set up to help literacy among children.  Marysville was chosen as one of the lucky cities for children to recieve free books every month up to the age of 5.  Below are the books that we have so far recieved.

As parents of 2yr.old twins we chose not to read this story to our kids yet.  This story is about a dinosaur who believes everything belongs to him therefore using the word MINE all the time.  Right now the twins don't use the word MINE.  It's inevitable that in the near future it will happen, but mommy and daddy are trying to avoid this as long as possible.

Good Dog Carl by Alexandra Day

What can say about Good Dog Carl...?  Lots.  I found 2 books of Good Dog Carl at a neighborhood garage sale last year.  They are 2 small cardboard books with no words, and beautiful illustrations about a Rottweiler taking care of a baby.  Mommy and daddy can tell their own stories to go along with the pictures.  My kids want to read about Carl just about everyday.  This is a wonderful book to have especially if you own a dog with children.  Our family has a wonderful dog name Blue, and we can all relate to Carl.    Three weeks ago my 2 yr. old son found another book about Carl at the library.  I started to search the shelves and found many more books about Good Dog Carl.  Some of these books also had words to tell the story for you.  What I found out about the Author is she does all the illustrations, and lives here in Seattle, WA.  For all you animal lovers don't pass up a chance to read one of these wonderful tales to your kiddos.

3 Random Picks from our Library

Silly Suzy Goose by Peter Horacek is a colorful book about a silly goose who wants to be like other animals.  The kids enjoyed learning the habitats that other animals live in.

Ping Pong Pig is a funny story about a pig who wishes he can fly.  I know the kiddos really enjoyed this one because after returning it to the library they continued to ask about it.  This book is written by Caroline Jayne Church with a good lesson to learn.

Mittens by Lola M. Schaffer is one of many I can read books.  It has large pictures with a very simple story, and few words.  We discovered many different stories similar to Mittens at our local library.  Again, this is another book that the kids like to read over and over, and sometimes I catch the two of them reading it aloud to themselves.

Hooray for Fish! by Lucy Cousins

This book is one of our favorites!  It's a large picture book with bright vibrant colors with a fun and different way to describe fish.  My kids like to read it over and over and talk about all the silly fish.

Flush the Potty by

This book is one of my children's favorite because it has a button that makes a flushing sound, and it talks about being a big boy/girl.  I'm not sure if all the publications of this book have the flush button, so if you're interested in buying one be sure to research first.

The Very Hungry Catepillar by Eric Carle

This book is very colorful with a simple story.  Try to find this book where the holes are cut out of the food.  The children love sticking their fingers in it.
